DIN 985 lock nuts are slightly taller than standard nuts. The raised section contains a plastic insert (polyamide ring) that adapts to the screw thread as the screw is tightened. The resulting form-fit connection helps protect against unintended loosening caused by movement or vibration. This is particularly suitable for vibrating objects, as the plastic insert resists unscrewing caused by strong external forces.

These self-locking stop nuts are made from rust-resistant stainless steel and can therefore be used both indoors and outdoors.
